September 18, 1947: Inauguration of the Voie de la Liberté (Liberty Road), a route commemorating the Allied victory and the liberation of France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Marked by a series of milestone markers, it traces the route followed by General Patton's American army.
September 18, 1981: In France, the National Assembly votes on the law abolishing the death penalty, presented the previous day by Robert Badinter: 363 votes in favor, 117 against.
