August 6, 1945: At 8:15 a.m. local time, the bomber Enola Gay drops the atomic bomb codenamed Little Boy from 9,000 meters above the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb will explode 43 seconds later, razing more than two-thirds of the city and killing more than 75,000 people instantly.
August 6, 1985: The states of Oceania sign the Treaty of Rarotonga, creating a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the South Pacific.
August 6, 2002: Dissolution by decree of Unité Radicale, the far-right movement to which Maxime Brunerie belonged, who attempted to assassinate President Chirac on July 14 of that year during the parade on the Champs-Élysées.
