What is Women's Day?

March 8 is a hugely important date: International Women's Day. Here are a few tips for making the most of this day. It is dedicated to recognizing women's rights, the fight for gender equality, and celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political progress achieved by women around the world.

Becoming more fully yourself and developing your own qualities without putting pressure on yourself, and rediscovering being a woman with her joys and sorrows, her strengths and her limits, happy with who she is, and happy to be a woman.

Date and origin of March 8

International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8.

The idea of a day dedicated to women's rights originated in the early 20th century, amid labor struggles and feminist demands. In 1908, in New York, female textile workers marched to demand better working conditions, fair wages, and the right to vote.

The following year, in 1909, the first "National Woman's Day" was organized in the United States by the Socialist Party of America and celebrated on February 28. In 1910, at the International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen, German activist Clara Zetkin proposed creating an international day to support the fight for voting rights and gender equality.

In 1911, International Women's Day was celebrated for the first time in several European countries, notably Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland, with a massive mobilization bringing together more than a million people.

On March 8, 1917, in Russia, women marched demanding "bread and peace" amid war and famine. This event, seen as a turning point, marked the beginning of the February Russian Revolution.

Finally, in 1977, the United Nations officially adopted March 8 as International Women's Day. Since then, this date has become a global symbol of the fight for equality and women's rights.

Tips for women on this day

Don't read celebrity gossip magazines, as they can be discouraging and make your own life feel dull by comparison. Comparing yourself to beauty standards and the extraordinary stories of magazine stars is depressing, not motivating.

Stop drastic diets meant to lose 3 kg that come right back afterward

Don't listen to friends who delight in making inappropriate remarks.

Make peace with yourself and rebuild your self-esteem.

Plan a date with your sweetheart for a romantic evening, forgetting about everything else.

For one day, turn a blind eye to the kids' bad grades, the messy room, etc., and enjoy good moments with them.
