Format
The competition pits the Defender against the Challenger emerging from the selection series. The AC75s remain at the heart of the spectacle, foiling monohulls designed to reach very high speeds. The preparation regattas and associated events, notably for youth and women's sailing, are based on AC40s according to the organization set by the event.

At this stage, the official lineup features five teams entered around the America's Cup Partnership, with Emirates Team New Zealand as Defender, Athena Racing for Great Britain, Luna Rossa for Italy, Tudor Team Alinghi for Switzerland and K-Challenge for France. Some previously rumored campaigns are no longer in the running, which has clarified the field around these five syndicates.
