As of January 2026, CONMEBOL has not confirmed the location or precise timeframe for the 2028 Copa América. Bids and discussions about hosting come up regularly, but until an official announcement is published, the 2028 edition should be considered "to be determined" for the public, travel planning and ticketing.
Tournament format
The Copa América first brings together South American teams, then sometimes rounds out the field with guest nations depending on the agreements in place at the time. The most common format resembles a multi-city tournament, with a group stage followed by knockout matches through to the final. This format makes the competition very intense, since one bad match in the final stage can be enough to eliminate a favorite.
