2028 Summer Olympic Games

From July 14 to 30, 2028, the Summer Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles, United States. The opening ceremony takes place on July 14, 2028 and the closing ceremony on July 30, 2028. The Paralympic Games follow from August 15 to 27, 2028.
Dates and venues
Los Angeles hosts the Games for the third time, after 1932 and 1984. Venues are spread across the greater Los Angeles area, with a few events held outside California. The opening takes place across two iconic venues, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, which shapes the organization of the first days and spectator flow.
Tickets and access
Ticketing is organized in phases with a lottery and purchase windows. The lottery registration period runs from January 14 to March 18, 2026, with the first purchase windows opening from April 2026. Prices vary by session, with entry announced from $28 for certain events, and an official resale platform is planned to limit fraud.
Sports and program changes
The program includes 36 sports and more than 350 events. Five additional sports mark the 2028 edition: baseball-softball, cricket (T20 format), flag football, lacrosse (sixes format) and squash. These additions come with event adjustments in several disciplines, and some sports that appeared as one-offs at Paris 2024 are not being carried over.
Swimming
Swimming remains a flagship discipline, with distances from sprint to endurance in a 50-metre pool. In addition to the classic freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, medley and relay events, LA 2028 adds 50m races in backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, for both women and men. The mixed 4x100m medley relay is also on the program.
The most decorated country
Across all Olympic Games, the United States remains the most decorated nation overall, with 1,219 gold medals, 1,000 silver and 876 bronze, for a total of 3,095 medals. These totals evolve after each edition and can vary depending on the counting conventions used, but the overall hierarchy has remained stable for several decades.
