July 22, 1917: Siam, present-day Thailand, declares war on Germany, allowing it to be among the victors of the First World War, and among the signatories of the Treaty of Versailles once it ended.
July 22, 1969: In Spain, General Franco designates Prince Juan Carlos de Bourbon as his successor to head the country, based on the Law of Succession. He will not become King of Spain until six years later, on November 27, 1975.
