History of the Academy Awards ceremony
Since the first, historic Academy Awards ceremony, held on May 16, 1929 at the Roosevelt Hotel, the Oscars night has changed a great deal, gaining in glamour, importance and media visibility.
At the start, the Oscars ceremony was a simple banquet, during which awards already known in advance were handed out, so the nominees were not even present. The leap to the grand ceremonies we know today happened when the names of the winners were no longer known but kept secret, adding more excitement to the Oscars night.
