Visakha Bucha in Thailand
Visakha Bucha is a major Buddhist holiday in Thailand. On Visakha Bucha people celebrate birth, enlightenment and death /or entry into the Nirvana/ of Buddha. As Thailand is Buddhist country, Visakha Bucha is celebrated throughout the country. Temples around the country are crowded with people listening to sermons about Buddha’s teaching /or Dharma/ In the evening there is candlelit procedure in the temple where the statue of Buddha is.
People go around the main chapel 3 times carrying flower, lit candle and 3 incense sticks in commemoration of Triple Gems – Buddha, his Teaching and his disciplines. Visakha Bucha is held in the middle of May and is not a fixed day happening. If it happens on Sunday, Monday is also public holiday.
