Amateur boxing vs. professional boxing
Amateur and professional boxing have different rules and objectives. Rules for professional boxing can vary significantly according to countries, while the rules for amateur boxing are the same all over the world. Athletes, referees and judges of professional boxing can not participate in amateur and Olympic boxing events.
Professional boxing counts many different federations which all rate fighters in the different weight classes and each have their own championships. The main boxing federation are WBA (world boxing association), WBC (world boxing council), IBF (international boxing federation) and WBO (world boxing organization).
In Amateur Boxing, the main competition is the AIBA Open Boxing (ex amateur boxing or Olympic boxing). There is also a new professional boxing league called AIBA Pro Boxing, and a semi-professional team tournament called the World Series of Boxing (WSB).
