The Rio meeting point
The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is Brazil's biggest carnival and one of the most spectacular in the world. It is experienced at two speeds, in the streets with hundreds of popular blocos, and at the Sambódromo with the samba school parades, prepared over months and judged on very strict criteria.
2026 Dates
In 2026, the most intense period runs from Friday, February 13 to Saturday, February 21, 2026. The official Sambódromo parades begin with the Série Ouro on February 13 and 14, then continue with the Grupo Especial over three nights, Sunday the 15th, Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th of February 2026. The grand finale, the Champions' Parade, takes place on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The Sambódromo Marquês de Sapucaí is the arena for the great nights of samba. The gates generally open in the early evening and the schools take to the runway later, with a show that continues until morning. In 2026, the Grupo Especial's running order is spread over three evenings, which makes choosing the right date important if you want to see a particular school.
Tickets for the 2026 edition
Prices vary depending on the evening, the section and the level of service. The bleachers are often the most accessible option, with starting prices announced around 30 US dollars depending on the period and availability, while numbered seats, boxes and premium spaces can climb much higher, especially for the Grupo Especial nights and the Champions' Parade. For nights at the Sambódromo, plan ahead for arrival and departure, as demand is very high and security checks can lengthen entry times.
