Paris International Agricultural Show

The Paris International Agricultural Show is the heir to the agricultural fairs (Comices Agricoles) of the 18th century, during which farmers from a region would come together and hold competitions to meet, exchange ideas, and develop their techniques and knowledge.
In 1870, the General Agricultural Competition (Concours Général Agricole) was launched in Paris, moving in 1925 to the Versailles exhibition grounds. In addition to being a livestock competition, it showcased local produce and farming techniques to the public, and in 1964 became the Salon International de l'Agriculture, roughly in the form we know today. The first edition drew 300,000 visitors, rising to as many as 678,732 visitors in 2011, for example.

Over about ten days, more than 4,000 animals from 350 breeds (dogs, goats, billy goats, sheep, rams, ewes, rabbits, cows, bulls, horses, ponies, donkeys, pigs, cats, fish and all kinds of farmyard animals) parade through the show in a festive atmosphere.
At a time when agriculture is very much in the news, "France's biggest farm" is built around the theme "Agriculture: a passion, and ambitions." This theme provides an opportunity to cover every part of the sector: training, know-how, careers, innovation and more.
The French agricultural show has a history spanning more than a century. Now held in Paris, it was widely popularized by former president Chirac and remains one of the French public's favorite events. Every year, it welcomes close to 700,000 visitors over the course of two weeks, who come to see the finest cattle breeds and sample award-winning regional products. The Salon de l'Agriculture gives visitors the chance to reconnect with the producers who champion French gastronomy.

Gathered in Pavilion 3, 373 exhibitors, including 90 producers who won medals at the 2017 Concours Général Agricole or are candidates for 2018, will introduce visitors to more than 12,000 regional products. 18 restaurants have committed to menus built mainly around local ingredients, and 15 tasting areas serving regional dishes made from products showcased at the Show will also be on hand.

The Salon de l'Agriculture is an ideal outing for families with children. They can admire a wide range of animals, and also take part in more than a hundred activities and workshops centered on taste, food, the seasons, biodiversity, the environment, and farming and livestock careers. Four "Agri'Détente" areas will be set up for children to rest and explore.
