Slovenia's Independence Day
June 25 is Slovenia's national day, honoring the independence gained by this small state in the northwestern Balkans on June 25, 1991. Having taken no part in the Yugoslav War, Slovenia is a small, prosperous country with considerable tourist appeal: pretty towns marked by Austro-Hungarian heritage, mountains, forests and rivers among the most beautiful in Europe, access to the Mediterranean Sea, and more.
